August in the Valley: Discover Nature, Learn Something New, and Get Active!

August is a wonderful time to explore the Bowmanville Valley! Whether you’re looking to learn more about the natural world, enjoy a relaxing evening outdoors, or introduce your children to a new activity, Valleys 2000 has something for everyone this month.

All of our events are designed to help people connect with nature, build community, and enjoy one of Clarington’s greatest treasures.

🌳 August 4 – Tree Identification Night

Location: Roenigk Trail Entrance

Have you ever wondered what kinds of trees surround you as you walk the trails? Join us for an enjoyable evening learning how to identify some of the many native tree species that call the Bowmanville Valley home. You’ll come away with practical tips that will help you recognize trees wherever your outdoor adventures take you.

🥋 August 11 – Youth Introduction to Martial Arts

Location: Commemorative Forest
Hosted by: Clarington Martial Arts

This fun, beginner-friendly session introduces young people to the fundamentals of martial arts in a beautiful outdoor setting. Participants will build confidence, improve coordination, and learn basic self-defence skills while enjoying the fresh air of the Commemorative Forest.

📚 August 18 – Walking Book Experience

Location: Roenigk Trail Entrance
Hosted by: Clarington Library

Experience reading in a whole new way! Presented in partnership with the Clarington Library, this interactive event combines storytelling with a guided walk through the valley, bringing books and nature together for a unique family-friendly adventure.

🧘 August 25 – Yoga in the Commemorative Forest

Location: Commemorative Forest
Hosted by: Durham Ultimate Fitness

End the summer with an evening of relaxation surrounded by nature. Whether you’re an experienced yogi or trying yoga for the first time, this session offers a peaceful opportunity to unwind, stretch, and recharge in one of the valley’s most beautiful settings.

Everyone is Welcome

These events are open to the community and are a great way to discover the Bowmanville Valley while meeting others who share an appreciation for nature, wellness, and lifelong learning.

We encourage participants to wear comfortable clothing, bring water, and dress appropriately for the weather. Some events may have limited space, so be sure to check the Valleys 2000 website and social media channels for the latest information and any registration requirements.
