Connecting with your community
There’s no better way to connect with your community, than to volunteer your time! Clarington and its diverse communities benefit from all of the various contributions volunteers make. Volunteers contribute time, effort and energy to augment and enhance our Valley programming. If you are looking for a way to get involved or if you are a youth looking to fulfill some of your placement hours, read on!
Valleys Naturalization opportunities
Urban Forestry offers a range of volunteer opportunities in our valleys. Tree planting, stewardship and trail building opportunities are available spring, summer and fall. These programs are a great way to get your hands dirty and contribute to the tree canopy goals.
Tree Planting
Tree planting is a fun, all-ages activity! Help plant native trees, shrubs and wildflowers. Planting events are a great activity for groups, individuals and families. Events take place in the spring and fall seasons, and are typically held on weekend mornings.
Community Stewardship Program
Volunteers help to improve the long-term sustainability of naturalized areas, while getting outside, team-building and developing new skills. This program is suited for adults looking for a short-term, regular volunteer commitment. Program season runs from May to September, and events are typically on weeknight evenings. One of our biggest annual projects is Spring Cleanup and we need all the hands we can get!
Natural Environment Trails Program
Clarington has a vast and growing network of natural-surface multi-use trails within the Valleys areas. These trails are well-used and highly-valued by hikers, joggers, dog walkers, and mountain bikers. As part of the Natural Environment Trails Program, trail users, members of the local community and stakeholders work along with Municipal staff to help ensure the protection of natural areas while continuing to provide safe recreational opportunities and improved access for all trail users. Join other trail enthusiasts for ongoing work on these sensitive natural environment trails. Volunteer your time building sustainable trails and protecting the sensitive environment they are located in.
