If you visited the Valleys 2000 tent at Bowmanville’s Applefest this year, you may have seen our colourful display featuring some of the many feathered friends that call the Bowmanville and Soper Creek Valleys home. These birds are just a few of the remarkable species that can be spotted along our trail network — a living reminder of why preserving and enhancing these green spaces matters.
From the bright flash of a Northern Cardinal to the graceful flight of a Great Blue Heron, our valleys provide essential habitat for both year-round residents and seasonal visitors. The Canadian Blue Jay, Black-Capped Chickadee, and American Tree Sparrow are frequent sights in every season, while the Yellow Warbler and Mallard Duck add vibrant colour through the spring and summer months. For the lucky and observant, you might even spot a Red-Tailed Hawk soaring overhead or a Barred Owl watching quietly from the trees.
Our volunteers created this display to celebrate the biodiversity that thrives in the Valleys and to inspire our community to explore the trails, support conservation, and help us continue building “A Miracle in the Making.”
Whether you’re a casual walker, a bird enthusiast, or simply someone who loves the outdoors, the Bowmanville Valley Trails offer a front-row seat to nature’s beauty — right in the heart of town.
Come walk the trails, bring your binoculars, and see how many of these beautiful birds you can spot!
